Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time to reveal the resolution of the Old vs New

Some time ago we directed a very important question to the community. The community voted and here are the results.

The results were conclusively inconclusive – half of you preferred the old one, the other half preferred the new one. The reasoning of both sides was equally convincing (and sometimes even overlapped).

Therefore we had a tough decision on our hands; however, despite it being the most work-intensive for us – basically doubling our workload for every map hereafter – there will be TWO map modes to choose from, the basic top-down view close to the original and the more modern, 3D Crusader Kings-esque approach. The two options will be available from the options menu and swappable at will.
